Nice Dug Virginia Coat Button with Gilt
Nice Dug Virginia Coat Button with Gilt
Here's a nice example of an excavated Virginia Coat Button, with
just enough gilt remaining to highlite the device well ! Good face
with no pushes or cracks, and very moderate ground action.
Virginia Motto is still legible. Back has heavier ground action, but
enough of the sunburst pattern around the shank area in center, to
tell that the maker's mark was probably Horstmann & Allien. Shank
is missing. A good decent example of a Civil War Virginia Coat
button, that displays very well ! Looks like Albert's VA15.
Recovered Northern Virginia but exact site unknown.
21mm.

Very Nice Excavated Virginia Cuff Button w/Gilt
Very Nice Excavated Virginia Cuff Button w/Gilt
Here's a nice little excavated Virginia Cuff Button, with just a bit of
gilt left for highlite ! Can't make out the motto, but it's still a good
face & device, with no pushes or cracks. Gilt around the very center
of device leaves no doubt about it being a Virginia button. Back also
in good shape with no damage, and tight upright shank intact. A very
respectable example that displays well ! Recovered northern Virginia.
14.5-15mm.

Excavated North Carolina Coat Button
North Carolina Coat Button w/Drilled or Punched Shank
Here is an excellent dug North Carolina State Seal, coat button !
Beautiful smooth green patina on the device, that still lets the details
show thru . Reverse shows the blank channel back, with a single
5-point star, indicative of manufacture by Wildt & Klein, of Columbia,
South Carolina. Intact shank is slightly tilted but tight, and has that
very crude look, as if it it were punched from a small piece of scrap
brass, as many were. A great example of a southern manufactured
state seal button, that displays perfectly ! Recovery location
unknown. 23mm.

Good South Carolina Button w/Some Gilt Remaining
Good South Carolina Button w/Some Gilt Remaining
Here's a respectable little South Carolina coat or vest button, with
a fair amount of gilt remaining ! There is a push at center, but motto
and device are still legible. Back has an Rmdc "Extra Rich" mark
which is easily seen, and tight intact shank, though bent over. A
good displaying South Carolina button. Recovery location
unknown. 18mm.
