Nice Pre-War USMA West Point Cadet's Coat Button Made into a Lapel Pin
Nice Pre-War USMA West Point Cadet's Coat Button Made into a Lapel Pin
Here is a Heavily Gilted Cadet's Coat Button from the
United States Military Academy at West Point
! With
the Rmdc Scovill Backmark, this one is Pre-Civil War, dating
1840s-1850s. Heck, it could have been on a Cadet's Coat in
1852-1855, when the Superintendent was Robert E. Lee !
Post Civil War, someone had the button's shank removed, and
a T-Bar pin added, likely for use as a lapel or breast pin. This
was occasionally done ca. 1880s -1920s, sometimes for wear
by ladies. The little clasp for the T-Bar is broken, but bar still
functions freely and will stay in place until moved. Button has
probably 99% Gold Gilt remaining, and looks even better in
hand, than in my pictures. A Sharp Pre-Civil War West Point
Cadet's Button ! 23mm.

Beautiful EG-6 Civil War Engineer Coat Button
Beautiful EG-6 Civil War Engineer Coat Button

This is an absolutely superb, non-dug EG-6 Federal Engineers
Coat Button ! I had a difficult time photographing it to show the
detail, due to it retaining 99% shiney gold gilt . Finally was able
to overcome the "shine" with very subdued lighting, but I can
tell you, in your hand this one shines like a newly minted gold
coin ! The areas on the reverse that appear dark in my pics
are barely noticeable in hand, it's mostly the dark lighting pics.
It's just beautiful ! It has no pushes, cracks, or damage of
any sort, with excellent details. Reverse shows a tight, upright
shank still intact, and correct period backmark that reads,
" * Waterbury Button Co. * Extra " These are extremely
rare in decent excavated condition, and a lot of folks who
want an example, end up with a good period non dug one.
This one is way above good, and displays beautifully !

and the word "Maine" at the bottom. Backmark is a correct Civil War
period, "Scovill Mf'g Co.Waterbury." Nice tight upright shank. This is

WC-1 Wisconsin State Seal Staff Officer's Coat Button
Nice WC-1 Wisconsin State Seal Staff Officer's Coat Button
Here's a good example of a Wisconsin Staff Officer's Coat
Button
! They are one of the more desirable Northern state buttons,
and getting harder to find. Though this one is non-dug, it shows a
lot of wear to the high points of the device. In other words, it didn't
lay in a box for years,
but was definitely worn and used ! Still retains
a good bit of gold gilt on the front, missing mostly on those high
points. Reverse has a period correct * Extra * Quality backmark,
in between two rows of dots, and a tight upright shank. No damage
of any kind, and it has a nice look that displays beautifully. 22mm.
